Hampshire Wills new on Ancestry

A lot of them seem to be indexed by surname only even though the given names are clear on the images.
|
Normally with Ancestry I would assume that their transcribers were at fault, but several of those which I have looked at are indexed under standardised spellings of the surname, rather than the version which actually appears on the image (e.g. Moore / More, Craft / Crafte, Russell / Russel), so I am guessing that the surnames may come from the Hampshire Archives' catalogue entries and that Ancestry didn't index those records.

And some standardisations are fanciful, to say the least.
|
In some cases the indexing has slipped. In 1748, several of the links are out by one.
If the wrong will comes up, check the "finding number" with Hampshire Archives catalogue, increase/decrease it by one and then search for those names on Ancestry. |
Looking at the search page, what on earth is a "Will Village"?
|
Something they have yet to decide. Kings Somborne, for example, doesn't appear on their list yet.

Lol! And it does appear under, I think, marriages post 1754.
I am so glad I have no Macs or O's in my family. |
