BMD Death Index not on scan - help needed

This is a death entry on Ancestry and FreeBMD: Ann Goodridge Jun Q 1858 Alderbury 5a 8

When clicking on the associated scan, this entry is not there.

I originally found this index entry on Ancestry and searched for it on the GRO site as I wanted to see her age at death to verify it was the correct person, but nothing was found at the GRO site.

I am aware, that for this period of time, the Ancestry BMD indexes are from FreeBMD. So, I went onto FreeBMD and got the same result. I also searched FMP but found nothing on there.

Back to FreeBMD and tried their suggestion of finding the correct scan the entry had come from but have got very confused. There is a note to say the entry is not in the expected page range.

Background information:

I would expect the death to be in the Alderbury registration district. There is an entry for 1856 but that is not my Ann Goodridge as this person was 82, also shown on her burial. I have searched for a burial for my Ann but no luck there either.

The surname Goodridge has many variations including Gooderidge, Goodredge, Goodrich and Guttridge. My Ann was born Ann Shelly about 1832. Her husband was William Goodridge who re married in 1865. She had a child Elizabeth Goodridge in Dec Q 1856 in Alderbury so was alive at that point. I have not found her in any census after 1851.

Can anyone find the scan where the original index entry has come from please?

Thank you for any help with this.

Pat

As far as I can see, it is just a transcription mistake and there is no such record. It looks as though the transcriber had a very poor copy of this index page.

Edit - if you click through from the entry on FreeBMD to view the original scan that was used for the transcription, the last few entries are very difficult to make out, hence the mistake.

Alderbury is the Salisbury area. If that is where you reckon she died, you ought to be able to find her burial. Off to hunt.

And a marriage to Ann in 1861, apparently not C of E.

Mary Louisa is not one of mine as the Mother's maiden surname would be Shelly. The family lived in the Salisbury / Downton / Charlton area.
Then William married his second wife in 1865 in St Mary Redcliffe, Bristol. On the marriage certificate he is shown as a Bachelor. (I have come across this on other occasions when the man was actually a widower). His occupation is recorded as Miner but he was a gardener previously and in subsequent censuses. His Father was Henry Goodridge which is correct.

I had previously discounted this 2nd marriage but DNA results have made me change my mind as matches have ancestors to children of this second and his third marriage in 1887.

Although I agree that the transcript is probably incorrect, the transcriber must have got the name from somewhere and that is why I was looking for a scan of the death in Alderbury.

Thank you for looking.

Phoenix, how can you tell it's not C of E?

On the assumption that all the parish marriages are on Ancestry. I haven't had problems with Salisbury and the surrounding villages in the past. I can't find an entry searching for either him or her.

Can you find William in 1861? Is he in Great Yarmouth in 1851, or is that another William? My Salisbury relations are whizzing around all over the place at that period, but largely to Hampshire and Surrey.

I see Wm and Ann also had a dau Lydia in 1854. I can't see her or Wm in 1861.

If he and Ann and his children had moved away from Wilts, could this be your Ann?

GOODRIDGE, ANN 26
GRO Reference: 1859 S Quarter in NEWINGTON Volume 01D Page 141

This was the only death I could see that was good for age between 1856 and 1865.

She was buried 8 Jul 1859 at Victoria Park Cemetery, Hackney from Belgrave Place(?), Walworth.
