A bit more digging has shown a marriage in Ilsington 1820 between John Parkins and Susan Leaman. Mary Ann's second daughter was called Susan.

The date fits for them to be Mary Ann's parents *insert hopeful icon
*pencils in Susan Leaman as Mary Ann's mum

I can't find baptism registers for Parkins/Perkins children :( It would be nice to be have another reason to adopt Susan Leaman as mine.

There's an online parish clerk for Ilsington "who invites queries and lookup requests", according to GENUKI:

Thanks Kate, I looked at that page yesterday but imagined that it would come down to paid research.

I'll write to her though and ask her how I could get access to the records from here.

EDIT:
done :)

I don't think online parish clerks charge for looking stuff up?

I just checked the message that I sent in Feb 2011 - I never did get a reply from her :(

Never mind, it looks as though Mary Ann and her siblings were baptised in another parish (see the John Parkins thread).
