Railway Employment Records 1833-1963 - ancestry
http://search.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=1728
A lot of people are listed by initial(s) rather than first name, so if you have no luck first time, try that. I've found my great-grandfather but I thought some of his relatives would be on there as well and not found them yet. |
Here's a tip if you can't remember which of your rellies worked on the railways - open your GEDCOM with WordPad and Edit - Find - search through for "rail". That's assuming you've filled in the occupations in your tree!

Thank for that link. I've just found OH's grandfather's details when he left the Navy and joined the railway.

Ah, it looks to me as though they don't include the records that are on Cheshire Archives' Railway Staff Register database:
http://archives.cheshire.gov.uk/default.aspx?page=70 That would explain why it doesn't include the records of my g-grandfather's early career, nor his stepbrother, as those are on the Cheshire Archives database. |
I've found my great grandfather's records when he worked for GWR :)
Also found another great grandfather working as a cleaner for a short time at Paddington. I didn't know about that one :) |
Just found my Uncle Wilf who joind the Great Central in 1925 as a boy of 14.
Can't find my Grandad or Great Uncle Arthur yet though... AN |
I can't find any of mine but that's due to them working on the North Eastern railways, wonder if Ancestry will add anymore records?
