born c1793 Radnor Staler, Radsnorshire, Wales

Parents unknown

Baptism unknown

Married: Mary Saunders (possibly in Ireland, their first 4 children on the 1841 were born there) Although Mary was born very close to Bigbury (which is where the family was to be found from 1841-1871)

He signed up to the Army in 1812 in Dublin and was discharged in 1834. He seved with the 37th Foot regiment for the full 22 years being posted in Gibraltar, France, Spain and Canada. He suffered an injury to his shoulder when a tree fell on him in Canada.

died: probably 1873 in the Kingsbridge district (I've just ordered the cert;))
died 24th June 1873 in Bigbury of chronic bronchitis and 'anasaica' (:confused:
Informant was Elizabeth Tims of Bigbury who was present at the death and made her mark.

Found on rootsweb :Anasaica ( ANASCARCA) = Generalized edema or generalized dropsy

I've just got his death cert in the post.

I can only be sure it's him because it mentions the 37th foot regiment in the occupation column - he left the army when he was 42, and died aged 82.
