Joint Tree question

Does anyone here share their tree with someone else?

I was talking to my BIL and SIL (half siblings) the other night and BIL is interested in doing a DNA test, for his ethnicity. I told him to test at ancestry and he can then upload to myheritage where SIL has tested.

SIL suggested she might test at ancestry so we are all on the same website and tree. I have a tree on ancestry and directed BIL to have a look as he had a question about a great grandparent and I could not remember the answer.

To link all their DNA to my tree I would need to have some sort of access to their tests. However SIL wants to test her father, who is not related to me or OH/BIL. I have no issue with her adding him but if anyone contacts about him, will I get the messages or will she, if I make her a contributor or editor etc to the tree?

If they find him on your tree and send you a message about him, it will go to you as you are the tree owner. But that won't happen since he is still alive and so he will appear as "Private" to anyone else searching trees. If they are sending a message because he is a DNA match, the message will go to her as the manager of his DNA test (or it should - apparently some are not getting through.)

Thanks Kite.

That makes perfect sense.
