FamilySearch has George's birth / baptism 1837 Banff, but they also have a birth 26 Nov 1839 at "King Edward, Aberdeen" of a Janet Reid, parents James Reid and Ann Morgan. Do you think it's the same family?

Ah, I see ancestry says there is a Jannet Reid age 17 with them in 1841; is it supposed to say 17 months? Have you viewed the actual image on SP?

Yes, Janet Reid, ever after Jessie Reid, is my 2 x GGM. That is her baptism, I believe.

James Reid remarried in 1846, so Ann must have died between 1841 and 1846. In 1851, the new family is strangely distributed - James Reid is staying with his brother John in Lower Wonford, Alvah, Banff, whilst new wife Isabella is at 16 Wright Clore (Close?) High St Banff, with "Ann Reid, stepdaughter in law" aged 10 and two children of the new marriage. No sign of Jannet/Jessie or Gerorge. Jessie reappears in 1861 with father and stepmother, as does George.

Ancestry's transcription of that 1841 census says Ann was born in Scotland, which I assume means it says she wasn't born in Banffshire - is that what it says on the image?

I haven't seen the image, Kate. I hadn't considered that, although I think I did look all over Scotland for a baptism/marriage etc. I will look again.

I am having computer problems today, so not ignoring you if I don't return at any time.

Hmmm, there is a George Reid age 14 born "Kingedward, Abdnshire" at Stoniehill, Alvah, Banffshire, Ag Lab living as servant with a George Hay, on the 1851 census, according to ancestry. I know that's where Janet was born, not George, but he could have got confused. Of course there are lots of George Reids so it may well not be him.

Then there is a Janet Reid age 12, born "King Edward, Banffshire" living at Turriff, Aberdeenshire as a house servant with a family called Dick, again, according to ancestry. May or may not be the right person.
