Falconers

When did the occupation of Falconers die out? I am trying to trace my Brown line back a bit more, and have come across the death of a William Brown, Falconer in 1702. At least I think his occupation was falconer. The person who did the register was very inventive in his spelling and it was written "ffoakiner".

I had already translated his "glowfour" into glover. If William wasn't a falconer any thoughts as to what his occupation was?

I don't think it has died out, lol, just got rarer. He would probably have been in the employ of landed gentry, so maybe a line of investigation would be to identify a suitable estate in the area.

I watched Pointless yesterday afternoon and one of the contestants described herself as a falconer.

Thanks OC - he lived in Loughborough so possibly some large houses or estates around there.
