Back to square 1 then!

Who are the children baptised as the sons/daus of Christian and Ann and what dates? (obviously they might not all belong to the same couple! lol)

Merry 07-12-10 10:13

Hellooo!

lol

I can see

Christian bap Apl 1824 (Montague St, lock maker) Bur May 1824

John Christian bap Dec 1825 (Montague St, clock maker)

Ann bap Aug 1828 (Montague St, shopkeeper)

Then there are the two other burials for Christian Benzing

1834 aged 30 (Montague St)

1837 aged 56 (wife Ann, Montague St)

I was going to look for more marriages around 1823, but the LMA records seem to have vanished from Ancestry.

They are still there Merry, honest!

The other witness to the 1812 marriage, Jacob Sulan was a business partner of Christian Benzing (info from Sun Fire Insurance records on TNA/Guildhall Library)

I have to go to work this afternoon will check in later. Thanks for looking!!

Bits and pieces....

TNA

Records of Sun Fire Office
MS 11936/511/1069433 19 December 1827
These documents are held at Guildhall Library
Contents: Insured: Christian Benzing 6 Old Montague Street Spital Fields chandler and dealer in clocks

If it wasn't for the 1812 marriage is would be easy to say Christian (1781) and his wife Ann arrived in the UK around 1820 with any children (inc Christian 1804). They then had three more children here inc your Ann, but the marriage wrecks that if it is the 1781 Christian marrying. :(

Thanks to Sylvia I have found a way into the marriage database, but I can't find anything!

Have you got your Ann Benzing (1828) in 1841?

kiterunner 07-12-10 11:47

The marriages are still on ancestry, Merry, they just aren't coming up on the global search:
London marriages and banns

Merry 07-12-10 11:50

Thanks Kate :)

No, I can't find any of them in 1841. I'm guessing that they're written as Benson. I've just checked to see if any of the other trees on Ancestry have found Ann or her brother John Christian but none seem to have them in 1841.

I have formulated a theory on my way to work today!!

Maybe the Christian who d 1834 was a nephew from Germany (or wherever) newly arrived with wife Ann and produced 3 children as baptised at St Mary's. In which case I don't suppose I'll ever find out the truth!
