Thank you, Marquette!

Where did you find the marriage licence? Most of my Sussex research was done decades ago and I got blank stares when I asked if such things had survived. I have lots of people marrying by licence, and a glimpse of the allegations might provide extra details.

Findmypast has an image from a book which additionally says "sureties said JL and Samuel Savage of Cuckfield (Hurstpierpoint or Cuckfield)"

Ooh, thank you Jill!

There are some John Lindfield/Linfield of Hurstpierpoint wills on the ESRO site (The Keep)

Archdeaconry of Lewes wills are on Familysearch

John Lindfield [Linfield] Yeoman, probate Lewes 19 Nov 1768
John Lindfield [Linfield] yeoman of Deane House, probate Lewes 25 Mar 1748 [3 pages but in the wrong order]

Marriages licences are listed on the Sussex Marriage CD, as well as the actual marriage. Generally they say the same things, but a few have extra small details, like place of residence.

I am happy to look up anything on the CD at any time.

I had another look at the Marriages CD - the only other John Lindfield to Elizabeth marriage is in 1723 John Lindfield and Elizabeth Long in West Tarring. There's no other details, but no Lindfield baptisms in West Tarring after the marriage.

A look at the baptisms makes me think John Lindfield was born about 1674 and Elizabeth Dumbrell in 1678 (baptised in Wivelsfield). But she still would have been over 50 when the youngest was baptised in 1731.
