Is he likely to be at sea again in 1911? At what time in his life did he become a steelworks labourer?

kiterunner 24-09-10 10:51

Presumably some time between 1891 and 1901, Marg. I don't suppose he would be at sea again in 1911 because he would be in his late seventies, but although I can't see a death between 1901 and 1911 in Cumberland there are quite a few possibles in other counties.
Edit - his second wife is "wife of Robert Dawson" on her probate entry and she died 18 Nov 1906, so he must have still been alive at that date, although the probate wasn't granted to him. Mary's address was 5 High Street, Workington.

Edit - there is a family at 5 High St on the 1911 census who look like Dawsons but they are Dansons so should be ignored!

I've been given his date of death from a memorial card - 5 Nov 1908. The card says age 78, but the GRO index has age 76. (He was buried at Seaton Hirst, Northumberland, so his death must be the one in Morpeth district.)
