Ethnicity Estimates
Ancestry is refining its model. Now much closer to counties!

Very weird!
They have narrowed down my Ireland and Scotland ethnicity substantially and specified North East Scotland and the Northern Isles, specifically Banff & Buchan and Moray & Gordon. This is fine as I am one quarter Scottish through my paternal grandmother. For England, Wales and Northwestern Europe, however, they have only honed in on Yorkshire and the East Midlands, specifically West Yorkshire and southern North Yorkshire. Both are correct for my father's side of the family. However, my mother's side of the family, predominantly in the south except for one branch in Lincolnshire, doesn't feature at all. Nothing for Cornwall, Hampshire, Sussex, Surrey or Buckinghamshire/Oxfordshire. |
Well my lot were from all over England. Only came to Burton for work in the breweries or railways

They have added this to mine:
North West England & the Isle of Man Cheshire, Merseyside & South Lancashire Merseyside & South West Lancashire Sounds about right for the Rimmers! |
They've only added Central Southern England to mine - an area which seems to spread from Devon to Surrey and includes Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire. As I have branches that moved to London from Berkshire, Surrey, Gloucestershire and possibly Somerset it would seem fairly accurate. To be honest I'd quite like another region as well which might give me clue where to look :d

Mine are weird now:-
England, Wales & Northwestern Europe 50% - Scottish Lowlands, Northern England & Northern Ireland Ireland & Scotland 50% - Scottish Central Lowlands They were:- England, Wales & Northwestern Europe = 50% - Southern England - East Anglia & Essex Ireland and Scotland = 50% - Scotland - Central Scotland & Ulster, Ireland How can you have Scottish Lowlands and Northern Ireland under England and Wales if they have also broken down Scotland Central Lowlands into Scotland and Ireland! |
They were doing so well for Dad - Yorkshire and the Midlands (The Potteries) and then they mentioned the Isle of Man.
I think one of OH's relatives went there for a census but he is nothing to do with Dad. Unless all the people I can't kill off move there? Seems unlikely to me. |
I have a sub-group in Ontario. I can say, hand on heart, that none of my ancestors lived there. But, half a village in Norfolk was shipped out to Ontario in 1840, so this may actually be a reflection of my Norfolk roots.
