Robert Smith

Date and place of birth c1827 Dundee?

Details of each of his or her marriages - 4 Jan 1847 at Cupar, Fife to Mary Hollinger.

Occupations - umbrella maker 1847
umbrella mender/ tinker 1851
master bell hanger 1861
bell hanger 1856/79

Addresses where they lived (including county if in UK) - and please list which censuses you have or haven't found him/her on (if s/he lived in census times!).

The only census I have Robert on is in 1851 when he's in Forfar Prison - or at least I think it's him. He appears as Robert Young aged 24 born Dundee and underneath him is John Smith aged 21 and born Dundee - both are umbrella menders and tinkers. Next below them is Mary Hollinger aged 21 and born Dundee and is a travelling tinker's wife. I've not identified Robert before or after. Mary had four daughters that I know of - Mary born c 1853, Margaret born 1856, Robina born 1861 and Betsy born (IGI) 1864 - Robert is named as father of Margaret and Robina on their birth certificates but I can't find the other two girls' births - on the IGI only Mary is named as Betsy's parent.

There are two Betsy Smith birth registrations in Dundee in 1864 on Scotland's People; have you already checked those?

Yes, have just checked on SP - neither of those are my Betsy
