For what it's worth, on the 1851 census she is recorded as born in Hemyock in Devon and is aged 75.

Thanks I did not spot that one. There is a marriage on free reg of William Burch and Mary Parsons in Taunton in 1803 but nothing to prove its my family. Oh for an unusual christian name. I have just submitted a correction to ancestry.

Unfortunately Hemyock is quite a big parish, but there is this:

MARY PARSONS Pedigree
Female

Event(s):
Birth:
Christening: 02 JUN 1776 Hemyock, Devon, England
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Parents:
Father: JAMES PARSONS Family

Messages: Extracted birth or christening record for locality listed in the record.

Did FreeREG tell you if she was a spinster?

anne fraser 06-11-10 21:11

No, I have not got any other details marriage 24th December 1802 Tauton St. James. Taunton is quite near Hemyock so its looking good. Difficult to prove.

Do you have siblings for their daughter (Jane, was it?)? If you could sort out their potential first child that might be a further indicator this is the right marriage.

anne fraser 06-11-10 21:47

No I only have John 1814 but I think there were older children. Unfortunately John and Jane are both married by 1841.
