Alice Wilson Born abt 1816 Pickering
 

Alice Wilson was born in about 1816 in Pickering in North Yorkshire
She was my mother's father's mother's father's mother (I think)! My GGG grandmother

I can find her marriage to Robert Potter in 1835 in Settrington but can find nothing else about her anywhere. I am trying to find both her ancestors and descendants

My mother's father (Robert William Henry Fisher) was educated in 1919 in the Isle of Man after we think his parents died and his ward was one Miss S H Wilson so I think she may be related to Alice as my mother seems to remember he was paid for by an elderly maiden aunt

Can anyone tell me where to start looking ?

I'm just going to move your thread to our research board, as this week we are focussing on members father's father's mother's father's father on the Take one 3xG-Grandparent board!

Do you know who the witnesses were to Alice and Robert's marriage and are you certain she was a spinster? (I know she was young, but I got caught that way, assuming a 19 year old bride wouldn't be a widow)

Do you have her census records?

In 1861 she says she was born at Old Malton, but I don't see a bap there either!

and ditto for Settrington, which is what she says in 1871!

I don't think she knows! 1881, Thornton, Yorks. There are at least eight places called Thornton in Yorkshire, so that will take a bit of investigating.

It will be Thornton le dale I would think if she is from Pickering based area ;;

I can't be sure I'm looking at the right person in 1891, but if I am then she says Sinnington and there's no bap there either.
