Thankyou Elizabeth :) OH's mum used to go over to Horsham shopping & to see relatives and used to visit the church, she will be particularly interested to learn that.

Hmmm, there is a baptism on FamilySearch Record Search pilot site:
George Clement Jenner baptised 12 Nov 1865 Horsham, Sussex, England, parents George and Caroline. There is also a Samuel baptised 29 Jan 1865, Edwin baptised 29 Jan 1865, and Ellen Frances Mrs Knight baptised 29 Jan 1865. Ellen Frances Jenner married William Knight in 1861 with her age given as 22, so it looks as if this is the right family and the children were all baptised as adults. It doesn't state the name of the church, chapel or whatever and I can't see them on the BMD Registers site.

Gosh, I'm ashamed to say I've only just noticed your input on this Kiterunner, my apologies and thanks.

I've only just noticed this, too, Jill

I live in Roffey, just near Star Close and the Star pub!

My understanding, too, is that Star Row was the former name for Roffey "village", which is now part of Horsham.

St Mary's is the main chuch in Horsham, although Roffey has its own Anglican Church - All Saints - but I don't think it came into being until 1878

I would be very happy to have a hunt in St Mary's churchyard for you - or take any photos - although sadly last time I was in St Mary's graveyard it was in a rather sorry state:(

That's useful to know, thankyou, we are only a few miles away and go to Horsham occasionally. I've already had a good look round the churchyard but didn't find anything. We'll have to put Roffey in the "to do" list.

Baptism found by Kiterunner is confirmed, it was at St Mary, Horsham and has the additional note "An Adult, occupation: grocer"
