I don't know which of Ann's children is your ancestor, but obviously you need one of the birth certs to get her maiden surname. I can see there's only one fit for Grace, so it might be safest to get that one:

Births Dec 1871
Jones Grace Merthyr T. 11a 392

I think you are right Merry - it is Catherine who is the direct line (of my son in law.......this is for his Crimbo prezzie). That is the only way forward, because it is impossible otherwise

I have already spent a fortune on this tree which is worrying because it means that I shall have to spend the same amount on my daughter;(

Merry 21-09-10 21:23

Tell your daughter the certs for her husband cost £3.50 each and you can get her a cheaper pressie! lol

Sally 21-09-10 21:29

Sneaky!!!! I like it

Sally 27-09-10 18:37

Don't you just hate it when that happens - looked for Ann under her newly discovered maiden name of Harris in 1851 and there she was.........a flipping visitor!!! No help with parents there then.

It may be purely coincedence, but the farm that she is visiting has several Jones working there - so am going to see if they are connected to her future husband

Merry 27-09-10 20:15

lol!

Best fit marriage?

Marriages Dec 1863
Harris Ann Merthyr T 11a 532
Jones John Merthyr T 11a 532
Lewis Henry Merthyr T 11a 532
Lewis Mary Merthyr T 11a 532

I thought that Merry, but then wondered about the one in March 1860. The reason I am currently favouring this one is that their first child was born in 1863 - foolishly I am assuming that they waited until marriage before having a child!!!!

I am searching and searching in 1861 for either of them, but am having no luck.

John Jones was considerably older than Ann - and this was his second marriage; his previous wife as also called Ann, and he had three children with her, the last being born in1857.........ah, hang on a minute, will be back

Sally 27-09-10 20:28

Yes, as I thought, that child is unconfirmed so Ann the first could have died anytime in the late 1850s.

Whatever, Ann the second and John must be around somewhere in 1861 - will keep looking because it will tell me for certain which marriage is the right one.

Merry 27-09-10 21:19

Have you found any of the first set of children in 1861?
