Did you know

that you can order commemorative wedding certificates from the GRO

for Silver, Ruby, Gold and Diamond Anniversaries.

I didn't - only found out today when ordering some birth and death pdf's.

Yes, I did know. The price is eyewatering!

One of my neighbours was about to celebrate her 100th birthday and we sent for a commemorative birth cert. Ooops! She was a year out, lol. We didn't have the heart to tell.her, so the party went ahead, photos with the Mayor etc!

And then!.Another couple were celebrating their 75 wedding anniversary. Same thing, a year out but the party didn't go ahead because their furious daughter canceloed it. (Theyve lied to me all these years, she howled).I

We've decided not to bother again.

I wonder what will happen if a certain couple whose wedding I attended in 1984 try to order a ruby wedding cert in a few years' time - their marriage doesn't show up on the GRO index, presumably due to teething troubles with the computerised system.

I wonder how close to to the wedding the daughter's birthday was?
