Maximum DNA matches for an ancestor?

I score a niggardly nine for one ancestor. Best Mate comes in at a whopping 74 for one of hers - a daughter emigrated to Canada and had a ginormous family, every descendant of which appears to have had their DNA tested.

What is the maximum you have for any of your ancestors?

Do you mean on ThruLines, Phoenix? I have 9 matches for James Rymer and Margaret Rimmer (my 5xg-grandparents), and also 9 for John Curling and Mary Blackburn. Only trouble is, I don't see how John Curling and Mary Blackburn can be my ancestors. Maybe I will start a thread about them some time.

Yes. And I have similar to you on cousin's tree. In the absence of information on cousin's father's line, Ancestry have not only created a putative tree, but also found a common ancestor on this fictitious line.
