35) Sidney John Hunt Private G/15827 11th Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment
 

35th of the Old Boys of St Wilfrid’s School, Haywards Heath to lose his life in the Great Wear.

Sidney was born in Haywards Heath, Sussex in 1882 one of 5 children of John and Louisa Hunt, they lived in Church Road in 1891 where his father John was a gardener. By 1901 they had moved to Franklynn Road, near where the garage/petrol station is now.

Sidney’s father died in 1892, nine years later Sidney was working as a brickmaker and living with his mother, new stepfather William and sister Agnes.

He died of wounds in France on 22 Oct 1916 and is buried at Blighty Valley Cemetery, Authuille Wood, grave I. H. 10. His family also placed a memorial stone at the foot of his father’s grave in St Wilfrid’s, Haywards Heath churchyard.

His mother received his effects of £2 10s 8d and a War Gratuity of £3.
