There is a likely death Jan - Mar 1868 Neath, Rebecca Evans age 52. Though there is also one Apr-Jun 1863 before age was added to the death index.

And a possible remarriage for Thomas Jul-Sep 1869 Neath to Mary Challaiam. I think her surname is a typo and should be something like Challicom but I'm only guessing that's the marriage because of the fact that Mary was born in Devon so I looked for any non-Welsh looking surnames.

Thanks Kite.

There is a possible marriage Thomas Evans / Rebecca Davies Neath district Oct-Dec 1846 but really there are too many possibles there, and they didn't give one of their children an unusual name to make the birth certificate easy to find either! Another family that we will have to hope turn up in the Welsh PR's.

There are a couple of Mary Challacombes of about the right age, born in Devon, on the 1861 census, so one of those might be Thomas's second wife.

Can't believe I missed this one: in the 1871 entry for Thomas there's a David G Challacom, aged 2, listed as a visitor - presumably some relation of Mary's, a nephew or possibly a son from a previous marriage (or illegitimate).

I missed that too, Michael! Well, that means you can get Thomas's second marriage certificate and find out who his father was, at least.

Will do, thanks. I'll try to find out where the parish registers for Llanguick are while I'm at it, which looks the best bet for tracing Thomas and Rebecca's marriage/their children's baptisms - I'd guess Glamorgan RO is the likeliest place.

Michael 02-06-11 19:26

Glamorgan has parish registers for "Llangiwg" - do you know if that's a different spelling of Llanguick or a different place?

kiterunner 02-06-11 22:04

Looks like it's the same place:
