Default E-petition to open historic registers

I just wondered whether Guy Etchells' petition had been mentioned here before. If it has, please delete this post!

Does anyone know when this petition was started? Apparently I've already signed it, but I don't recall that, so it must have been several years ago, yet there are only 8000+ signatures.

I don't know, Merry, but it says on the site "An e-petition can be open for up to 1 year"

Thanks Joan, I didn't see that. So....I must be going loopy then, as I have no recollection of signing anything in the last year. If it's only open until March they surely won't get enough signatures - don't you need 100s of 1000s of sigs before anyone cares?

No idea how many sigs you need Merry, but it does look as though the petition was launched last March, as you say. - http://www.whodoyouthinkyouaremagazi...-bmds-launches

Looks as if we would all need to sign it ten times!

Guy has mentioned this on another forum and my impression is that the petition has failed.

Howver, he said at the time and has recently repeated, that a far more effective tool than signing a petition is to lobby your MP about the subject. The more people who do this, the more likely "they" are to listen. The subject has recently been raised by Baroness (??? sorry, can't remember her name!) and it is hoped that a renewed attack on this subject will at last bring results.

So - email your MP. I also emailed my local family history society and the U3A and my library kindly put up a notice (advertising the petition but also asking people to email their MP).
