Default Does anyone live in Lanarkshire?

Baronald

If you look at the bottom of this article it says there is a portrait of A J Crawford Farie. I would be interested in seeing this portrait if anyone could manage a photo or find a way of finding it online?

You could try contacting the hotel and see if someone would take a photo and email it to you. Their email addy is on this page:

http://www.bw-cartlandbridgehotel.co.uk/contact-us/

I did see some images of the dining room where a couple of portraits could be seen in the background so it would seem the pictures are still there.

Is this the person you are after (b 1881, d 1931) or is he someone further back?

Thanks Merry.

That is the man Merry. I'll contact them straight away and fingers crossed they still have it and will take the photo.

I got a reply today and they sent me all portraits not just the one I asked for.

The portrait I wanted is of my 3g grandfather's grandson. Having looked at the photo, he looks like a pretty young (5yo) girl.

Not at all lol.

I have no idea why but I had expected an older person in the portrait.

As he was 5 (I think) it would have been painted in 1886-1887 in Scotland so maybe that is how young boys were dressed.

Anyway I do have to recommend the Cartland Bridge Hotel in Lanark for their excellent service. They did not have to reply to my query at all and to have responded within 24 hours is fantastic. From the photos the place looks lovely as well.

Yes, young boys used to be dressed like girls in those days.

As late as that though?

Is that a riding crop in his hand?

I was looking at that hotel recently as one I might stay in when I go up to Scotland in the summer.

oh Maggie if you do stay there could you take a better picture of the portrait please? I'd love to confirm the age as it is a bit blurry on the picture.

I've been googling and in the 1980's there were portraits of the parents of the above sold for what looks like over 2000 pounds each. The mother had 2 sold, one as a 5 year old and another that I assume was an adult. No where can I find pictures but the painter was Robert Crawford. I'm wondering if he was a relation.
